Perpendicular bisector of a line

Draw a horizontal line 12 squares long, then construct its perpendicular bisector: the line crossing it at right angles through its exact centre, reaching 6 squares either side. Find the centre by construction rather than by counting — swing an arc of the same radius from each end, and the bisector runs through where they cross. Draw the arcs with the Construction line type; the marker ignores them and grades the two solid lines.

What you are given

Each square is one unit. Draw these first, then construct from them.

The method

Worked example: the perpendicular bisector of a 6-unit line, with the two compass arcs left in. It illustrates the method only, not this exercise's answer.
