Drop a perpendicular from a point to a line

Draw a horizontal line 20 squares long, then a point 14 squares above it and eight squares in from its left end. Construct the perpendicular from that point down to the line — the shortest route from one to the other — and draw it as a solid line. Find the foot by construction: an arc from the point cutting the line twice, then bisect between those two crossings.

What you are given

Each square is one unit. Draw these first, then construct from them.

The method

Worked example: the perpendicular bisector of a 6-unit line, with the two compass arcs left in. It illustrates the method only, not this exercise's answer.
